Service Description
Hatha Yoga is the oldest form of yoga that all other formats branched from. Ha means sun. Tha means moon, so Hatha is the union of the sun and moon (mind and body). We start by grounding (to calm nervous system to parasympathetic response) Then we get body ready to build heat with sun salutations (Surya Namaskar), adding asanas (poses) on each time. We do strength moves and balance moves and then restorative moves, finishing with savasana. Hatha Yoga helps students to build strength and confidence, improve flexibility and balance, and foster spiritual peace and contentment. Awareness of the body follows, and from this awareness comes control and from control comes grace and beauty. We learn to: 1) focus our attention; 2) be aware of our breath; 3) build a foundation; 4) move into and out of postures; 5) honor the suggestions of pain; 6) cultivate regularity, enthusiasm, and caution; 7) take personal responsibility and; 8) practice patience.
